Introduction

Regulatory compliance is essential for any organisation manufacturing, importing, or using chemicals within the UK and EU. This course offers a clear and practical foundation in the REACH and CLP Regulations, helping organisations understand their responsibilities and reduce compliance risk.

Learners will gain a comprehensive overview of REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) and the Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) regulation. The course provides practical knowledge relevant to real-world supply chain responsibilities.

English Language Competency


A good standard of written and spoken English is important to engage effectively with this programme. While formal certification (e.g. IELTS) is not required, learners whose first language is not English should have a self-assessed proficiency equivalent to IELTS 5.5–6.0 or CEFR level B2.

This level of competence will support learners in understanding course materials, contributing to discussions, and completing assessments where applicable.

  • Identify the substances and mixtures covered under REACH and CLP
  • Understand the key stages and requirements of the REACH registration process
  • Interpret obligations around labelling, classification, and safety data sheets (SDS)
  • Compile compliant safety data sheets and understand their structure
  • Recognise the role of candidate lists and Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs)

Course Contents

This practical one-day programme provides an overview of the key aspects of the REACH and CLP regulations.

Topics include:

  • Introduction to the REACH regulation: aims, legal framework, and key stages
  • Scope, exemptions, exceptions and registration requirements
  • Overview of the registration process and roles of lead/member registrants
  • Candidate List and Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs)
  • Introduction to CLP regulation and its connection to GHS
  • Notifying, classification and labelling of substances to ECHA, online submission in REACH-IT
  • CLP Notification – Submit substance data to ECHA using REACH-IT
  • Safety Data Sheets (SDS): format, layout, and extended SDSs
  • Supply obligations and updates to REACH Annex II
